Frequently asked questions

Who do you work with?

I support individuals across the lifespan—from youth to seniors—seeking internal peace through life’s transitions. I specialize in helping:

  • Seniors: Navigating the unique shifts of later life with a patient, somatic approach that honors your wisdom.

  • Youth (10+): Providing a gentle space for pre-teens and teens to navigate anxiety, school stress, and big emotions.

  • Stuck or Burnt-Out Individuals: Helping you move from overwhelm back to your own intuition and grounded ease.

  • Couples: Supporting partners in breaking repetitive cycles of conflict and finding a path to repair.

  • Movement Seekers: Offering Walk & Talk therapy for those who prefer the outdoors and movement over a traditional office or screen.

What is Somatic Therapy?

Somatic" simply means "of the body." While traditional talk therapy focuses on the thoughts in your mind, somatic therapy focuses on the sensations in your body.

We work this way because your nervous system often "remembers" stress or trauma long after your mind has tried to move on. By listening to the body’s whispers—like a tight chest, a knot in the stomach, or a change in breath—we can:

  • Release stored tension that talk alone can't reach.

  • Regulate your nervous system so you feel less "on edge."

  • Reconnect you to a sense of safety and calm from the inside out.

It is the shift from "knowing" you are okay to actually feeling it.

What does a typical session look like?

A session at Whispering Way is a gentle, collaborative conversation that moves at the pace of your nervous system. Whether we are meeting virtually or through a Walk & Talk, we follow a natural flow:

  • The Check-In: We begin with where you are "at" today. We don't just talk about the week; we notice how your body is arriving in the chair (or on the trail).

  • Somatic Awareness: I might invite you to notice a physical sensation—like a tightness in your chest or a flutter in your stomach. We stay with that feeling to see what it needs to say.

  • Guided Regulation: We use simple tools like breath, grounding, or gentle movement to help your system move from "survival mode" to "safety."

  • Integration: We finish by making sure you feel "put back together" and settled, with one or two practical tools to use in your daily life.

For Walk & Talk sessions: The movement of walking often makes it easier for the body to release "stuck" energy, making the conversation feel more fluid and less intense than sitting face-to-face.

What should I expect in a virtual session?

Virtual therapy is just as "real" and effective as in-person work. We meet for 60 minutes via a secure, encrypted link (Doxy.me) that requires no software to download.

The flow of a virtual session:

  • The Arrival: We notice how you are feeling in your body as we begin.

  • The Work: I use a somatic lens, helping you notice physical signals to move past the "story" into deeper healing.

  • The Release: We may use gentle grounding or "micro-movements" to discharge stress.

  • The Closing: We ensure you feel grounded before ending, often with a small tool to use at home.

All you need is a private space, a stable connection, and perhaps a cozy cup of tea.

Is it normal to feel nervous? (Common Worries)

Absolutely. "Anticipation anxiety" is a natural response to starting something new. Here is what I want you to know:

  • "I don't know what to say." That’s okay. In somatic work, we don't rely solely on words. I am here to guide you.

  • "Will I feel worse?" We work strictly within your Window of Tolerance. My goal is to build your internal resources, not overwhelm you.

  • "Is my problem big enough?" If something is affecting your peace, it is worth exploring.

  • "Is virtual as good as in-person?" Many find that the comfort of their own environment actually helps them open up more deeply.

You are not broken; you are a human with a nervous system doing its best to protect you.
